The Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) is an expedited process for physicians (who qualify) to use as a pathway to licensure. It helps eliminate the headache of going through the application process in multiple states and tremendously reduces processing times at state boards.

How Does It Work?

Physicians must apply through the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC )after meeting requirements*, including:

• Must already be licensed in a participating Compact Member State.
• Must have a spotless record of care delivery.
• The physician must choose a primary State of Principal License (SPL).

The physician’s background credentials and legal history are reviewed. Next, the commission determines whether they can receive licensure. More importantly, these states will then share all investigative information. This ensures that if the physician comes under review in one state, all states will take similar action. It is in this way that the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) will fulfill its goals of improving patient safety via the licensure compact.
